Golgi Complex: Biogenesis de novo?
نویسنده
چکیده
Whether Golgi biogenesis occurs by self-assembly or around a pre-existing template is currently a matter of debate. Recent studies have shown that Golgi structural proteins are more dynamic than previously thought, suggesting that self-assembly of the Golgi complex may be possible.

A novel laser nanosurgery approach supports de novo Golgi biogenesis in mammalian cells.
The Golgi complex has a central role in the secretory pathway of all higher organisms. To explain the synthesis of its unique stacked structure in mammalian cells, two major models have been proposed. One suggests that it is synthesized de novo from the endoplasmic reticulum. The second model postulates a pre-existing Golgi template that serves as a scaffold for its biogenesis. To test these hy...
متن کاملPositive feedback between Golgi membranes, microtubules and ER exit sites directs de novo biogenesis of the Golgi.
The Golgi complex is the central organelle of the secretory pathway. It undergoes dynamic changes during the cell cycle, but how it acquires and maintains its complex structure is unclear. To address this question, we have used laser nanosurgery to deplete BSC1 cells of the Golgi complex and have monitored its biogenesis by quantitative time-lapse microscopy and correlative electron microscopy....
متن کاملBiogenesis of the plant Golgi apparatus.
It has long been assumed that the individual cisternal stacks that comprise the plant Golgi apparatus multiply by some kind of fission process. However, more recently, it has been demonstrated that the Golgi apparatus can be experimentally disassembled and the reformation process from the ER (endoplasmic reticulum) monitored sequentially using confocal fluorescence and electron microscopy. Some...
متن کاملNonequilibrium description of de novo biogenesis and transport through Golgi-like cisternae
A central issue in cell biology is the physico-chemical basis of organelle biogenesis in intracellular trafficking pathways, its most impressive manifestation being the biogenesis of Golgi cisternae. At a basic level, such morphologically and chemically distinct compartments should arise from an interplay between the molecular transport and chemical maturation. Here, we formulate analytically t...
متن کاملBiogenesis of the Inner Membrane Complex Is Dependent on Vesicular Transport by the Alveolate Specific GTPase Rab11B
Apicomplexan parasites belong to a recently recognised group of protozoa referred to as Alveolata. These protists contain membranous sacs (alveoli) beneath the plasma membrane, termed the Inner Membrane Complex (IMC) in the case of Apicomplexa. During parasite replication the IMC is formed de novo within the mother cell in a process described as internal budding. We hypothesized that an alveola...
